I is for I Love You

So, for today's poll, we thought we'd do great movie scenes that convey love. There are SO many romances out there that it was impossible to choose. Because of that, we went with some of the most popular romances we could find. As always, feel free to cast a vote for something of your own choosing.

And, with that said, we'll begin with one of the most romantic movies ever. I couldn't find the transcript of the exact scene I wanted, but I found some awesome quotes.

The Notebook

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours. ”

“We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has only happened once, and that's why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I'll never forget a single moment of it.”

“Noah: "You wanna dance with me?"
Allie: "Sure. Now?"
Noah: "Mmm Hmm"
Allie: "You're not supposed to dance in the street."
Noah: "You are supposed to dance in the street."
Allie: "Yeah, but we don't have any music."
Noah: "Well, we'll make some... Bum bum bum bum bum bum..."
Allie: "You're a terrible singer."
Noah: "I know."
Allie: "And I like this song.”

Jerry Maguire:

Jerry: Wait. Okay, okay. Okay. If this is where it has to happen, then this is where it has to happen. I'm not letting you get rid of me. How about that? This used to be my
specialty. You know, I was good in the living room. They'd send me in there, I'd do it alone. And now I just... I don't know. But tonight, our little project, our company, had a very big night. A very, very big night. But it wasn't complete, wasn't nearly close to being in the same vicinity as complete, because I couldn't share it with you. I couldn't hear your voice, or laugh about it with you. I missed my wife. We live in a cynical world, a cynical, cynical world, and we work in a business of tough competitors. I love you. You complete me. And if I just had...
Dorothy: (interrupting) Shut up. Just shut up.....You had me at hello. You had me at hello.

Moulin Rouge: This is part of the song Christian writes for Satine to convince her of his undying love.

Never knew I could feel like this,
like I’ve never seen the sky before,

Wanna vanish inside your kiss,
everyday I’m loving you more and more.
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing?
Telling me to give you everything.
Season’s may change, winter to spring
But I love you, until the end of time

Come what may, Come what may
I will love you until my dying day.

The Princess Bride:

Westley and Buttercup are standing outside. They embrace.
Grandfather: “It was a very emotional time for Buttercup.”
Grandson: I don’t believe this!
Buttercup: I fear I will never see you again
Westley: Of course you will.
Buttercup: But what if something happens to you?
Westley: Here this now: I will always come for you.
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is True Love. You think this happens every day? Kisses her, picks up his bag, walks away.
Grandfather: “Westley didn’t reach his destination. His ship was attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who never left captives alive. When Buttercup got the news that Westley was murdered,--“
Grandson: Murdered by pirates is good…
Grandfather: “She went into her room and shut the door, and for days she neither slept nor ate.”
Buttercup sits in a chair in her room.
Buttercup: I will never love again.

When Harry Met Sally:

I love that you get cold when it is 71 degrees out.
I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Say Anything: Scene where John Cusack holds up boom box and plays, "In Your Eyes." Enough said.

So, to recap, your choices are:

The Notebook
Jerry Maguire
Moulin Rouge
The Princess Bride
When Harry Met Sally
Say Anything

P.S. I copied and pasted some of this, and then couldn't figure out how to get rid of the white boxes around the text, just in case anyone is wondering why they are there. haha

  1. Many of those I never saw, except of course, Jerry Maguire, which of course was a great movie and scene.

(I do hate that copy paste highlight stuff. I usually paste it on MS Word first, clear all the formatting, and then copy and repaste it to my blog.)

  4. I don't know if I cold enjoy a movie, or a book for that matter, if it didn't have at least a hint of romance in it.

Jeremy--My husband hated that movie and he usually loves action. But I liked it. It was so bizarre I kinda had to.

Mere--I've never actually seen Princess Bride, I really want to. One of these days. But I know it's super popular, so I made sure to include it.

    Melanie--I totally agree!!

  6. I would have to go with The Princess Bride. Though that's mostly because it's the only one I've seen. :P LOL.

  13. I don't usually watch a lot of romance movies, but I'd actually seen four out of the six movies you'd mentioned here. I really liked The Princess Bride, especially in the beginning when he was saying "as you wish" to every one of her demands.

  14. Everybody loves the You had me at hello line. However, my favorite is The Notebook since it's a love that lasts a lifetime. Sigh, we need more romance writers writing for real life ;)
